Supervise and evaluate staff, student aides and volunteers

Library Assistant’s Responsibilities (General)
Opening up library and all the entails (turning on lights, front computers, and copy machine, picking up newspapers from back, unlocking doors, checking bathrooms and voice messages)
Circulation (adding and deleting patrons, collecting fines, checking in and out materials, holding materials, student withdrawals)
Shelving materials (magazines, books, videos) with the help of others
Processing magazines and displaying them
Notifying librarian of any problems receiving magazines
Reading and dusting shelves with other staff
Scheduling classes and leaving notes in teachers’ boxes the night before they are scheduled
Notifying students and teachers if holds are ready
Checking student passes
Monitoring student behavior and providing discipline when needed
Assisting students, teachers, and patrons with locating materials
Asking for help from colleagues when needed
Helps supervise student aides
Inventory/weeds with other staff
Organizes bulletin boards and displays
Waters plants weekly
Helps promote library
Notifies appropriate librarian of items requested
Attends meetings and in-services when asked
Works as a crucial member of the team
Follows the supervisory chart (chain of command) when issues arise
Runs overdue notices with other staff
Deposits money at bookstore from fines and copier monthly and get change when needed for front desk
Records 3M gate count Monday am and Friday pm
Sends books to library clerk for repair
Monthly story times with preschool
Closing down and locking up if last to leave

Library Clerk/Media Technician’s Responsibilities
The library clerk’s workday consists of eight (8) work hours and a thirty-minute lunch. The library clerk is responsible for the cataloging and processing materials in accordance with district’s job description.
Checking-in new items and marking received and date on purchase order
Sending receipts to accounting and keeping track of money on blanket PO’s
Processing items (Follett, barcodes, labels, pockets, bug, cover) to be checked by back librarian before going on shelves
Writing thank you notes with tax deduction information for donations
Repairing items if it is possible
Notifying back librarian if book is beyond repair
Discarding books under supervision of back librarian
Checking mail and delivering to library staff
Reading and dusting shelves with other staff
Inventory/weed with other staff
Helps with promotion of library
Covering front desk or other areas when needed (library assistant is at lunch, during library assistant’s off desk work 1 hour a day, after-school tutoring if applicable, and some hours if library assistant is absent at the request of a librarian). This position is never responsible to open the library. The library assistant will open and if she is not present a librarian will open.
Help covering the floor/lab during tutoring (out of office, circulating, and visible to students during the entire tutoring time)
Check-in and check-out of audiovisual equipment (VCR, boom box, camcorder, tripod)
Helping Bill Maginnis with audiovisual tasks when needed
Helping school administration, faculty, staff and students with audiovisual equipment when needed
Monitoring student behavior and providing discipline when needed
Asking for help from colleagues when needed

Addresses any problems with this position to back librarian then follows chain of command if the issue is not resolved
